THE AMERICAN

WESTERN SYMPHONY
George Balanchine
Although set on a rugged Old West street full of cowboys and dance hall girls, this ballet is very much a classical work, while infused with steps reminiscent of folk dancing to traditional American melodies arranged by Hershy Kay. A striking example of Balanchine’s fascination with American themes.
